Goal groups hold the company's shared goals together. You add ready-made goal templates under each group; employees and managers pick one of these templates when entering a goal and fill the form in one click. This step is optional: goals can be entered without templates.
Users with Performance Management Administrator Permission open and use this screen; saving groups and templates needs no other permission.
Before you start
You have Performance Management Administrator Permission (Responsibility management).
You have decided which goals are company-wide and which are at branch or department level.
Step by step
Go to Growth and hiring > Goal groups in the left menu. The screen has three columns: Goal groups on the left, the Goal templates of the selected group in the middle, and Goal Template Detail on the right. Under each column title you see how many records it holds or what is selected. On narrow screens and phones the columns open one after the other: picking a group opens its templates, picking a template opens its detail; the back arrow in the title returns to the previous column.
Click Add Goal Group on the right of the page title (while there are no groups yet, the same button in the column works too) and fill in:
Goal Type: Company Goal, Branch Goal or Department Goal.
Title: For example "Customer satisfaction".
Description: Optional.
Click Save.
The All, Company, Branch and Department tabs above the group list show how many groups each scope has and filter the groups. In the single row under them, search with the Search name or description box and, next to it, sort by group name, scope or template count with the Sort menu. Click a group to select it. The + on the row adds a template to that group right away.
Click + (Add Goal Template) in the title of the Goal templates column and fill in (while the group has no templates, the Add Goal Template button in the middle of the column opens the same window):
Goal Name and Goal Description (required).
Goal Type and Company Goal: The type and group the template belongs to.
Linked Company Goal Group: To link branch and department templates to a company goal (optional).
Click Save.
Check the Weight Distribution bar above the template list; the Used and Available shares are written next to it. When a template is added or deleted, the weight is split equally across the group's templates (for example 25% each for 4 templates). To change a template's weight, edit the number in the circle to the left of the template; it is saved when you press Enter or leave the box. If the Used total exceeds 100%, the change is reverted.
To edit or delete a template, use the three-dot menu on the row or the edit and delete buttons in the title of the Goal Template Detail column on the right. Deleting a group also deletes all its templates.
How a template is used when entering goals
When adding a goal, open the Fill from Template (Optional) section in the Add Goal Set window, select Goal Type, Company Goal and Template in turn and click Fill. The goal name, description, type, group and weight are filled into the form; you can change them.
The criterion type (Point, Count, Day, Currency, Percentage, Other) and the target value are not kept in the template; they are chosen when the goal is entered. For the meaning of the criterion types, see Entering goals as an employee.
Result
Groups and templates can be selected in the goal entry window right away. Changes to a template do not change goals that were already saved after being filled from it.
Common problems
Symptom: Goal Groups is not in the menu.
Cause: You do not have Performance Management Administrator Permission.
Solution: Request the permission; this screen is for admins only.
Symptom: I changed a template weight but it went back to the old value.
Cause: The templates in the group would total more than 100%.
Solution: Lower another template's weight first, then raise this one.
