Entering and tracking a salary-based enforcement deduction

Explains how to enter an enforcement (garnishment) file as a salary-based deduction, how several files are deducted in delivery order, how the deduction is postponed in a month without paid days, and how to follow the deduction account.

When you enter a wage garnishment order from an enforcement office in Teamso as an Enforcement deduction, the deduction is calculated automatically every month from the employee's net pay for that month and continues until the debt is paid. The record is entered by a user with Benefit Manager Permission and followed in payroll by a user with Payroll Manager Permission.

Before you start

  • Have the deduction rate, total debt and the date the file was delivered to the company from the enforcement order.

  • The payroll period of the delivery date must not be closed.

Step by step

1. Entering the enforcement file

  1. Go to Pay and expenses > Benefits in the left menu and click Add Deduction on the Deductions tab.

  2. Choose the employee and select Enforcement as the deduction type. The method is Salary-based (dynamic).

  3. Fill in the fields:

    • Deduction Rate (%): must be between 1 and 25 (the legal maximum is 25%).

    • Total Debt: deducted every month until the debt is paid; the number of deductions follows the payroll. The amount is entered in Turkish Lira.

    • Date Delivered to Company: deductions start in this month. With several files, this date sets the order.

    • File / Case No and Enforcement Office (optional).

  4. Save.

2. How the deduction is calculated

Each payroll computes the employee's net earnings after statutory deductions (salary, bonus and overtime included), subtracts alimony if any, and sets aside the entered percentage of the rest for enforcement. When the employee has several enforcement files, they are paid in the order they were delivered to the company: the next file starts only when the previous one is paid off, and any leftover in that month moves to the next file. Total enforcement never exceeds the legal 25% limit.

3. Following it in payroll

  1. On Pay and expenses > Payroll periods, the Benefits > Deductions sub-tab has an Enforcement Deduction column. Because the salary-based amount depends on net pay, it shows 0 here before a preview; after a preview, the cell's tooltip shows the "Deducted in preview" amount.

  2. After Preview Payroll, the Preview category shows a Total Enforcement Deduction card and an Enforcement Deduction column per employee. In the employee's breakdown, the Enforcement deduction section shows legal net, alimony, base, the amount deductible this month, and the amount deducted from each file with the remaining debt.

  3. The deduction is finalized at calculation and written to the file's Deduction Account.

4. Viewing the deduction account

When you open the enforcement record on the Deductions tab, the Deduction Account panel shows Total Debt, Deducted, Remaining, Status (Being deducted, Queued, Completed, Passive), Order, Months Deducted and Est. Months Left. Below, each period lists Base (net − alimony), Rate, Period Limit, Deducted from File and Remaining Debt. The estimate is based on the last period's limit and changes with the salary.

5. Postponing and stopping

  • Automatic postponement: In a month without paid days (unpaid, maternity or military leave, or a missing timesheet), no deduction is made. The period screen shows the band "The enforcement deduction can't be made this period for … employee(s)", and the calculation confirmation shows how many will be postponed. The remaining debt is deducted from where it left off when the employee returns.

  • Stopping manually: To stop the deduction by order of the enforcement office, make the file Passive; when you make it Active again, it continues from the remaining debt.

  • Manual amount for this month: If you type an amount in the Enforcement Deduction cell on the period screen, the rate is not applied that month; the amount you typed is still distributed in delivery order and capped by the remaining debt.

Result

The deduction is subtracted from the file's debt in payroll; net pay is the payable amount after enforcement and other deductions. When the debt is paid off, the file becomes Completed and the next file in the queue starts.

Common issues

Symptom: "The enforcement deduction rate must be between 1% and 25%".
Cause: The rate is outside the legal limits.
Fix: Enter a rate between 1 and 25.

Symptom: The enforcement file cannot be deleted.
Cause: Deductions have already been made from the file.
Fix: Make the file Passive so it is no longer included in payroll.

Symptom: The delivery date or total debt cannot be changed.
Cause: Changing the delivery date of a file with deductions would break the order and history; the total debt cannot go below the amount deducted so far.
Fix: If needed, create a new record for the remaining debt and make the old one passive.

Symptom: The preview shows 0 enforcement with a note that the net pay subject to deduction is 0.
Cause: The employee has no paid days this month.
Fix: No action needed; the remaining debt carries over to later periods.
