Badge report, Excel and monthly summary

Explains the Report tab of Growth and hiring > Badge management - recognition counts, the breakdown by badge, source and department, employees never recognised and the optional leaderboard - downloading the recognitions to Excel and turning on the…

This article explains how to measure the recognition culture of your company on the Report tab of Growth and hiring > Badge management: who is recognised, which department is silent, which badges are used. Company admins and users with the Badge Management Permission or the Performance Management Administrator Permission see the report. Managers see their own team's badges on the My Team tab of Mine > My badges (Recognition Wall, My Badges and badges on the profile).

Before you start

Step by step: reading the report

  1. In the left menu go to Growth and hiring > Badge management and click the Report tab.

Report tab on the Badge management screen
  2. Click the filter chips in the row at the top and pick a value:

    • Period: This month, Last 3 months, This year (default), All time or Custom range. Custom range adds a Date range chip next to it. The selected range is written on the right of the same row, next to the Download Excel button.

    • Branch and Department: limit the report to one unit. The department list shows the departments of the selected branch.

    • While a period other than the default, a branch or a department is set, Clear all shows and sets them all back; the cross next to a chip removes only that filter. The filters are kept in the page address, so a shared link opens the same report. On a phone the chips sit in one sideways scrolling row and open their choices in a bottom panel.

  3. Read the summary strip under the filters. The report fits on one screen: under the summary strip, from left to right, By badge, By source (with the leaderboard below it) and By department sit side by side; long lists scroll inside their own card.

    • Recognitions: the active recognitions in the range. Below it you see how many show on the Recognition Wall and how many are private.

    • People who recognised and People recognised: the number of different people who gave and received at least one active recognition. Recognitions given by an automatic rule have no giver; the card mentions them separately.

    • Employees never recognised: how many active employees in the filter received no active recognition in this range.

  4. On the far right of the summary strip, recognitions Awaiting approval, Rejected and Revoked are counted apart. They do not count in the recognitions, the breakdowns or the leaderboard.

  5. By badge shows how often each badge was given, By source where the recognitions came from: HR / badge admin, Manager, Colleague, Automatic rule (Automatic badge rules) and Integration. Hover over a bar to see the number of recognitions and people.

  6. By department shows the active recognitions of each department and, on the right, Employees recognised (recognised / active employees). A department with employees and no recognition is marked Silent. The info icon next to the title explains this count in short.

Every person counts in their current department; the department rows add up to Recognitions. Recognitions of people who left are not deleted: they drop off the Recognition Wall but stay in the report and the Excel file. Employees without a department are in the No department row.

Leaderboard

When Leaderboard is on in the Settings tab, the ten active employees with the most recognitions are listed under By source; the department shows under the person's name and the points under the number of recognitions. People with the same number of recognitions share a place. The setting is off by default, because ranking can hurt the recognition culture. While it is off, the same place says "The leaderboard is off".

Download Excel

The Download Excel button downloads every recognition of the selected filters as one row: Date, Recipient, Department, Branch, Badge, Given by, Source, Status, Visibility and Message. For recognitions given by an automatic rule, Given by says "Given automatically by Teamso". Besides the active recognitions the file lists the ones awaiting approval, rejected and revoked with their Status; the rows whose Status is Active add up to Recognitions in the report. The message of a private recognition goes into the file only for badge admins. The file is prepared on the server; one file holds at most 100,000 rows.

Monthly summary e-mail

When you turn on Monthly recognition summary e-mail in the Notifications section of the Settings tab, the badge admins get last month's summary on the morning of the first day of every month: the number of recognitions, people who recognised and were recognised, the most active department and the employees without any recognition. The Open the Report button in the e-mail opens this tab. The option is off by default.

Badges and the performance score

Badges do not count towards the performance score; goal weights and the period score are not affected by badges. On Growth and hiring > Goals and in the Period Final Score window, the number of badges the employee received in that period shows as information only, with a small badge icon (End-of-period goal evaluation).

Differences on mobile

The report opens in the mobile app too; the summary strip moves to two columns, the breakdown cards stack and the charts become simpler: each row shows the name and the number side by side with a thin bar below. In the leaderboard the department moves under the name and the points under the number of recognitions. A computer is better for a detailed look and the Excel file.

Common problems

Symptom: The report total is higher than what I count on the Recognition Wall.
Cause: The report counts private recognitions and those of people who left; the wall only shows public recognitions of active employees.
Solution: Look at the on the wall number under Recognitions; for the same date range it equals the wall.

Symptom: The leaderboard does not show.
Cause: Leaderboard is off in the Settings tab.
Solution: Turn it on and click Save.

Symptom: There is no department filter.
Cause: Your company, or the selected branch, has fewer than two departments.
Solution: Clear the branch filter.
